Bursting at the seams

More broken water pipes:
Two more water mains burst overnight, bringing more questions (LA Times).
Be sure to check out the comments. Steve Lopez also enters the fray: Awash in trouble, it’s time to spout off at DWP(LA Times).
Re: Steve Lopez’s article, it’s about a couple who are complaining about their high DWP water bill, who turn out to be using 750 gallons of water a day. That’s twice the Tier 1 limit, which is already absurdly generous. The DWP clearly deserves criticism for the offhand way it deals with the public and the way it wastes water itself, but I don’t see that people who are using 750 gallons a day have a leg to stand on. It would be more useful to write about the need to reduce the Tier 1 limit.
I admit I choked when I heard how much their pre-complaint water bill was, and wondered how the hell any single family user could spend so much just on water. I mean, that is some folk’s rent payment! So point taken, well said.
