Militant Angeleno on the Creeks of UCLA
August 31st, 2011 § 6 Comments
There’s an excellent article today at Militant Angeleno where he tracks down and maps the lost creeks running through the UCLA campus in Westwood. The piece includes plenty of photos and a great map. Here’s an excerpt:
There were four waterways that ran through the UCLA campus – all north from the Santa Monica Mountains down south eventually towards Ballona Creek – just like the other two rivers that The Militant retraced. There was (from west to east) the West Arroyo, Foothill Stream, Stone Canyon Creek and East Arroyo.
Read the full story here and more about Stone Canyon Creek from some L.A. Creek Freak coverage.
(Apology to LACF aficionados: I haven’t posted much lately… but I will continue to post here intermittently.)

Thanks for sharing this! As an ex-Angeleno, I find it especially intriguing.
Have intended to check this out for a long time, but have been busy checking out other watercourses. Where does one park to access the natural part of the creek? I’d have checked this out years ago as a student had I known.
I’m glad you geeks are out there. I don’t feel so weird.
Mike: There’s a small parking lot right next to the creek behind the Anderson buildings. Of course, you probably need a permit to park there.
Thanks. And a summer visit there would probably be easier. Once school starts it’s probably tough. Keep up the watercourse fixation.
Monsieur Creek Freak: Thanks for the props! Anytime you want to daylight a creek, just say where, and the Militant will show up with the explosives, free of charge (no pun intended…)!
I feel scooped! Good job recounting the history, Militant. Glad my mapping was helpful.
